Simulating Term Structure of Interest Rates with Arbitrary Marginals

چکیده

Decision models under uncertainty need to be feeded with scenarios of the interest rate curve. Such scenarios have to comply, as close as possible, with the empirical distribution of each rate. Simulation models of the term structure usually assume that the conjugate distribution of the interest rates is lognormal. Dynamic models, like vector auto-regression, implicitly postulate that the logarithm of the interest rates is normally distributed. Statistical analyses have, however, shown that stationary transformations (yield changes) of the interest rates are substantially leptokurtic, thus posing serious doubts on the reliability of the available models. We propose in this paper a vector autoregressive model to simulate term structure of the interest rates with arbitrary marginals. We will show that our model is able to simulate paths of the entire term structure with distributional properties very close to those found in the empirical data.

Robust Distributed Source Coding with Arbitrary Number of Encoders and Practical Code Design Technique

The robustness property can be added to DSC system at the expense of reducing performance, i.e., increasing the sum-rate. The aim of designing robust DSC schemes is to trade off between system robustness and compression efficiency. In this paper, after deriving an inner bound on the rate–distortion region for the quadratic Gaussian MDC based RDSC system with two encoders, the structure of...

Copulas and dependence mea- surement

Copulas are a general tool for assessing the dependence structure of random variables. Important properties as well as a number of examples are discussed, including Archimedean copulas and the Marshall-Olkin copula. As measures of the dependence we consider linear correlation, rank correlation, the coefficients of tail dependence and association. Copulas are a tool for modeling and capturing th...

A Versatile Bivariate Distribution on a Bounded Domain: Another Look at the Product Moment Correlation

Abstract The Fairlie-Gumbel-Morgenstern (FGM) family has been investigated in detail for various continuous marginals such as Cauchy, normal, exponential, gamma, Weibull, lognormal and others. It has been a popular model for the bivariate distribution with mild dependence. However, bivariate FGM’s with continuous marginals on a bounded support discussed in the literature are only those with uni...

Parameters Estimation for the Bivariate Sarmanov Distribution with Normal-type Marginals

Recently, Sarmanov’s family of bivariate distributions gained interest due to its flexible structure that easily joins given marginals. In this paper, we focus on the parameters estimation for the bivariate Sarmanov distribution with normal-type marginals. The maximum likelihood method is discussed and illustrated on both real and simulated data.

WORKING PAPER SERIES Taylor Rules and the Term Structure

The expectations model of the term structure of interest rates has been subjected to numerous empirical tests and almost invariably rejected. In fact, the vast majority of the empirical evidence is based on the estimation of single-equation models and on the assumption that realized returns are a valid proxy for expected returns. A recent strand of the macroeconomic literature has analyzed mone...
